Dans ses livres à destination du jeune public, l’autrice Veronika Bilkova se concentre sur l’œuvre de différents compositeurs, tentant de transmettre de manière simple un point de vue sur leur œuvre et leur impact sur le champs de la musique.
Son premier livre, autour des compositions de Ludwig van Beethoven, était concentré sur ses travaux symphoniques et de piano, sa manière expressive et dynamique de composer, qui se détachait des éléments stylistiques du classicisme. On trouve également dans ce livre des descriptions des visites du compositeur à Pragues, comme sa visite des spas tchèques et d’autres endroits qui lui ont inspiré ses symphonies les plus connues.

Pour le projet de création que l’autrice développe à La Marelle, Veronika Bilkova explore désormais une célèbre œuvre d’opéra du compositeur tchèque Bohuslav Martinů. Elle se concentre particulièrement sur sa période de création durant son séjour en France, qui a duré quasiment deux décennies. Elle analyse également ses œuvres importantes et uniques datant de cette période, très influencées par la scène artistique française.

My second book about the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, on the other hand, focuses mainly on his opera works. It aims to highlight the most essential and interesting facts about Smetana’s artistic contribution to the Czech music scene in the second half of the 20th century. I particularly wanted to draw young readers into the magic of Smetana’s innovative way of connecting instrumental and vocal music in operatic art, and to show Smetana’s modern artistic approach, through which he tried to open new horizons for Czech listeners of the time. I am currently studying and working on the structure of a new book that will deal with the works of the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů. In this book, I will focus on his works in a variety of musical fields and genres. In particular, I will concentrate on his creative period during his stay in France, which lasted almost two decades. I am looking forward to analysing his significant and unique works at that time, which were heavily influenced by the French art scene in which he was immersed. (I will focus on his orchestral works with a programmatic character, and will mention concert, chamber and piano pieces, and I will focus more on operas, ballets, and especially concerts, which belong to the most famous works of this period. Also, as part of the narration, I will concentrate on his incorporation of Czech folk elements and melodies into his compositions. I not only write my books but also illustrate them, and from the beginning of the work I design the the book so that a large part of the message is carried not only by the text but also by its visual part. In our literature, there are not many books that introduce young readers to facts about classical music in an understandable form whilst not overwhelming them with large amounts of text. The aim of my books is to present facts in short and concise paragraphs with eye-catching illustrations, which aim to draw the reader into the narrative and creating further connections.
